Well..it’s often been said that Gibraltar is a little bit of Britain in the Med. This is not strictly true. Although it is a British territory and English is spoken, this 2.6 square mile area on the southern tip of Spain has its own government, its own identity and even its own language, Llanito! Bet you didn’t know that! If you get a chance to visit Gibraltar there are not many hotels and the ones that are there are pricey so the best way to do it is by cruise ship. You can walk from your ship straight into town. I have chosen 7 Super things to do on a short visit to Gib!
7. Try out the local ice cream
Now…all teens like ice-cream, but all teens will LOVE Gibraltar ice cream. There is a little shop on the high street that sells the most amazing flavours in the world! If only they did delivery!
6. Go to the Botanical Gardens
Now..strangely…not many people actually know they are there, but the botanical gardens are fabulous just to walk about. Plus…it’s free! My dad is smiling already! And as all parents know…teens can be very expensive so this is a great way to keep a few pounds in your pockets!
5. Animal Sanctuary
If you are an animal lover like me make sure you visit the stunning animal sanctuary inside the Botanical Gardens. The sanctuary is inhabited by animals that have been rescued. There are parrots, monkeys, rabbits, iguanas, otters and much more!
4. Enjoy the sunset!
What else is better to do on holiday that just to sit, relax, and watch a beautiful sunset! In Gibraltar there is fab weather and great views across the Mediterranean sea made for memorable sunsets!
3. Go shopping!
The high street has shops you will know like Mothercare and Marks & Spencers but as Gibraltar is duty-free you can pick up electronic goods really cheaply! Maybe a new phone for us teens!
Don’t get me wrong, the excursions that cruise lines plan are fantastic…but sometimes I prefer just to wander around the port by myself. And you can certainly do this in Gibraltar! Wander around the town and see the red post boxes, telephone boxes and the Government buildings. Or if your like me you might prefer to wander along the beach!
1. Go up the Rock in a cable car!
I actually did a cable car ride recently in Germany and I absolutely loved it! There are such amazing views at the top and you can see the whole town below…and even North Africa across the Mediterranean! Plus…make sure you meet the local Macaque apes …although they look friendly be careful as they have been known to bite people!
