From my personal experiences, the majority of my cruises have been fly-cruises departing from many different countries in Europe. However last year I experiences my first no-fly cruise and it put convenience on a whole new level!
When you go on a cruise holiday, you want to be relaxing from the very beginning. However for some passengers, that initial flight can be a very stressful experience. Waking up at the crack of dawn, going through the airport security, transfers to the ship. Therefore a no-fly cruise can be a much more stress-free option allowing you to just lay down on a sun-bed and have a cocktail or two!
The most it will mean is a drive to your nearest cruise port. Unfortunately for me I live about as far away from any cruise port as possible; slap back in the midlands! Below are my super seven reasons why you should take a no-fly cruise.
1. Take your whole wardrobe
One of the major reasons to take a no-fly cruise is something many people forget about. When you fly-cruise you are restricted on how much clothes and how many pairs of shoes you can take because of the baggage weight limits. So you get this on no-fly cruises as well right? No! When you take a no-fly cruise there are no weight restrictions meaning you can take everything including the fridge! Oh…is it just me?
2. No Danger of FC
Whether you are a cruiser or just a regular holiday maker, we all know that dreaded FC; flight cancellations. Just imagine waking up at the crack of dawn, trudging along to the airport, spending what seems like decades trying to get through security to then find out your flight has been cancelled. When you take a no-fly cruise you don’t have this worry; all you have to do is drive to the terminal!
3. I’m scared of flying
Flight-phobia is a perfectly normal thing, many of my friends suffer from this. Unfortunately this can stop many people considering cruise holidays, automatically assuming the only cruises available are fly-cruises. I can guarantee you if you cruise from Southampton you won’t see a plain in sight! This ensures you can relax from the very beginning of your cruise, and start of a stressful and frightening note.
4. Itineraries of your dreams
Recently I attended the Advantage Cruise Conference in Southampton, we had a special talk about the trending things within the cruise industry. One of the highest selling cruise destinations was The Fjords. This shouldn’t come as a shock due to the pure beauty of the places you visit and glide past in the sea. Therefore I am very pleased to say that most cruises taking this destination depart from Southampton. Meaning by taking a no-fly cruise you aren’t going to have the less popular itineraries.
5. Be the first onboard!
If you’re an eager cruiser like me, you like to be the first onboard. You’ve paid for your cruise and you want to be enjoying it straight away. When you take a fly-cruise sometimes you can be waiting a while for your transfer, meaning you may not get onboard the ship until lunch time. No-fly cruises eliminate this wait meaning you could be the very first passenger onboard the ship! You know what that means, cocktails even quicker!
6. Don’t suffer sleep deprivation
Being a travel journalist I am constantly flying around, ranging from one hour flights to 16 hour flights! Longer haul flights are my favourite as you get the fabulous in flight entertainment. Nothing puts me in a better mood for my travels than being high in the air, watching Meryl Streep on the screen in front of me! Unfortunately there is one downside to this, jet lag! The worst feeling to the start of your cruise holiday is having jet lag. You want to be getting busy straight away on your cruise and enjoying the activities. Jet leg can hold you back and mean you won’t be enjoying your cruise straight away.
7. Lugging your luggage around the airport!
As good as the latest suitcase can be, we all know it is a pain dragging it around the airport. Tripping over numberous times, and trampling on many innocent people’s feet to then leave it in the coffee shop! When you take a no-fly cruise all you have to do is take your suitcase from the car, to the ship! As simple as that!
Hopefully I have convinced you to take a no-fly cruise!
